Praktyka Residency

“Our mission is to provide an inspiring environment in which people can stay and practice whatever creative thing it is that excites them.”

Praktyka Residency.

Leave everything from your normal life behind.

Pause, disconnect and see what comes up.

Unplug.

This opportunity will give you time and space to focus on your creative practice.

We know that forging a life and career as a creative person is tougher than ever.

During this residency there is no obligation to produce anything.

This time will give you a different way to engage as an artist.

You do not have to update social media.

Make mistakes, daydream, doodle and learn.

Put a value on your day to day creative practice.

Residency details:

October: 17/10/25 - 24/10/25.

This residency offers 7 nights in the Praktyka cabin.

The cabin is a space designed by Niall Maxwell of Rural Office architects, to inspire calm, creativity and connection to nature.

You will be responsible for managing your own time during the residency.

The residency is a chance to focus on your creative practice, you can define what that means to you. You can find your own rhythm.

The only output we ask in return is a few hundred words on ‘what does creative practice mean to you’ to add to our journal.

Praktyka

Polish for Practice

  1. (Noun) The application or use of an idea, belief, or method, as opposed to theories relating to it.

  2. (Verb) Perform (an activity) or exercise (a skill) repeatedly or regularly in order to acquire, improve or maintain proficiency in it.

About Praktyka:

Praktyka is an idyllic creative retreat on the wild North Devon coastline.

Setup by artists Ania Wawrzkowicz and Henry Trew in 2018, Praktyka provides architectural accommodation, run art workshops and creative retreats.

‘Praktyka’ means ‘practice’ in Polish. Our mission is to provide time and space for guests to practice any creative endeavour that inspires them.

Praktyka has three unique places to stay - the barn, the dome and the cabin. As well as a large communal barn with a fully equipped kitchen.

All set within four acres of woodlands, wildflower meadows and spectacular gardens, Praktyka is a little slice of paradise.

Ania is an artist, photographer and jewellery designer. Her studio is her sanctuary where she makes jewellery and runs workshops.

Who should apply?

This residency open to all creatives - writers, philosophers, scientists, painters, designers etc - who seek time and space to develop their creative practice.

This solo residency is for someone who is self-directed and loves nature, peace & quiet.

The setting will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas.

The spaces would not suit artists who require ’messy’ workspace for painting or other works.

Your accommodation and deskspace is provided but you will be responsible for your own travel and self catering.

(We are developing partnerships to off fully funded residencies in the future)

Your Hosts:

Praktyka is run by artists for artists.

Henry & Ania live on site and spend all year managing Praktyka and looking after the land.

They will be on hand to welcome you and give you a tour of the site.

During your stay you will have privacy, peace and quiet.

If you want company and conversation, you can join Ania in her studio to talk through ideas and share inspirations.

There may be other guests staying in the other spaces during your stay.
